China Yellow River Television Station was approved by the Information Office of the State Council and the former Ministry of Radio, Film and Television. It was formally established in July 1991 as the first professional TV station in China to broadcast to the United States. At present, there are two sets of TV channels broadcasting to the United States, namely SCOLA Satellite Educational Television Network and Great Wall (North America) Platform Educational and Cultural Channel. In addition, there is also a set of ground TV channels and broadcasting frequencies covering Shanxi Province and surrounding provinces.

Established in 1991, the member TV stations of the "Yellow River TV Council of China" co-sponsored by Shanxi Radio and Television Bureau, engaged in external publicity.

China Yellow River Television was originally the second program of Shanxi Television Station; in 2004, China Yellow River Television Station was reorganized and separated from Shanxi Radio and Television System and became an independent organization. There are three sets of TV programs (Minsheng Channel, International Station and Skola Station) and one set of radio programs (Shanxi Literature and Art Broadcasting), which cover Shanxi Province and North America. Minsheng Channel and Shanxi Literature and Art Broadcasting are domestic channels, International Channel is "Foreign Education and Culture Channel" and Skola Channel is "Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Channel". Domestic stations call for "Yellow River Television Station", which covers all of Shanxi Province and its surrounding areas.
