Overview of Wulingyuan, core scenic spot of Zhangjiajie:Wulingyuan, core scenic spot of Zhangjiajie, is located in hinderland of Wuling Mountain in the northwest of Hu’nan, middle and upper reaches of Lishui River, one of the four major river systems in Hu’nan.

Wulingyuan was approved by the State Council in 1982 to construct the first national forest park of China in Zhangjiajie, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park; in 1992, it was selected into the “ World Nature Heritage Site List” by UN; in 2003, it was listed in world geological parks by UN; in 2006, it was evaluated as the first batch of national AAAAA-class scenic spots by National Tourism Administration. Wulingyuan has complicated geological structure and peculiar geomorphologic landscape, enjoying the fame as “3 thousand marvelous peaks and 8 hundred beautiful rivers”.

 The ingenious model, wonderful charm and beautiful prospect are arguably “excellent works” of nature. Wulingyuan is the shooting place of the American film “Avatar”, Chinese classical masterpieces“Dream of the Red Chamber” and “Journey to the West”, and “The Chinese Ghost Buste” and “Monster Hunt”. Luxuriant Wulingyuan stands alone in the world. The nature’s uncanny workmanship makes grand landscape of quartz sandstone peak forest, which is the “source version of Chinese painting”, the prototype of “floating mountain” in the film “Avatar”.Recommended visiting time:March-May, Sept.-Nov. The best tourist time of Wulingyuan, core scenic spot of Zhangjiajie is spring and autumn: in spring, Zhangjiajie has fresh and fragrant grass, fallen petals, go against the stream of Jinbian Stream, wander in 10-li gallery, explore Yellow Dragon Cave, experience the surprise of the Wuling person when he entered the Peach Garden; in autumn, Zhangjiajie has high sky and clear clouds, mountains and forests all tinged, and this is the time when delicious fruits like kiwi and tangerine turn ripe. Relatively speaking, it’s hot and rainy in summer, and cold in winter, which is not as comfortable as in spring and autumn.
