Chinese Basketball Association (simplified Chinese: 中国篮球协会; traditional Chinese: 中國籃球協會; pinyin: zhōng guó lán qiú xié huì), often abbreviated as CBA, is a national non-profit sports organisation in China. In February 2017 at the CBA national congress, Yao was unanimously elected president of the association – the first time a non-official had ever taken up the post. Five days after taking up the post, Yao submitted a proposal to the CBA comprising three major reforms: split the league into two conferences and increase the number of games; limit the time that players spent training for the national team and adopt the invitation system used by the NBA; and put a cap on the court time of non-Chinese Asian players.

The plan was reportedly rejected and hushed up
