The predecessor of Lancang Mekong international channel is Yunnan Radio and Television International Channel. Since its official launch in 2013, it has been the first Chinese channel to be broadcasted in Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and other countries. It has translated and broadcasted more than 800 episodes of excellent Chinese TV plays, documentaries and cartoons. At the same time, it is also the first provincial TV channel to land in Thailand, with tens of millions of Thai TV users.

On September 30, 2018, the international channel was approved by the State Administration of radio, film and television, changing the call sign to "Lancang Mekong international channel"
